Fleet Vehicle Brand

The Big Red Bus® is the signature fleet of bloodmobiles for OneBlood and also the most known of my creations. There are more than 200 Big Red Busses roaming the Southeast in search of life saving blood.

Backstory

When Central Florida Blood Bank was growing to become Florida's Blood Centers, the blood mobiles were a scattershot of colors, wraps, paints, sponsor logos, etc. I knew simple was better and developed a simplistic concept to unify and brand the fleet. Think red blood and "Clifford The Big Red Dog." That's how the Big Red Bus® was born.

Lessons Learned

Best Practices

We tested using vehicle wraps or paint with vinyl letters to optimize the appearance. After some trial and error through real-world use, it became very clear the latter was the best choice for the mobiles. Vehicle damage and the southern sun ruined wraps quickly whereas establishing a brand paint with white vinyl provided a more durable and consistent result.

Scalability

Creating a repeatable process to be able to easily apply the brand to all existing and future busses across a very large geographic area. Establishing preferred vendors, coordinating bus down time and graphic templates for a variety of bus makes and models took some time to iron out.

Tribal Knowledge

Despite having gained brand equity in the market for several years, this concept was close to being abandoned during a corporate merge at the behest of a third party consultant. Thankfully senior leadership kept it alive and it continues to be successful today.
